Ini dia perbedaan superbike dan motogp menurut Ben Spies. Tahun 2010 ini Ben Spies adalah seorang Rookie di motogp dimana sebelumnya dia adalah Rookie di World Superbike dan langsung menyabet gelar juara dunia pada tahun pertamanya yaitu di tahun 2009 dengan mengendarai Yamaha R1.

Now with six months on the M1 prototype, how does Spies compare the two world championship Yamahas, the M1 vs the R1? "The M1 is a whole different animal from a Superbike," he said. "I can't say it's specific to the R1, but when the setup on a Superbike is that little bit off, you can do different things on the bike to ride around problems during the race, and still make that fast lap time happen.

You've just got to do a couple different things. On the GP bike, when you've got it working well, and you're riding well, the lap time's there, and sometimes it feels like you're not even having to put in so much effort to do the lap time.

But when the setup is that 15% off, it doesn't matter how hard you ride the thing, it just doesn't go around the corners as good as the other bikes, and you can't make the lap time, no matter how hard you try and what you do different on the bike, because it's more a mechanical setup, a geometry setup, than a problem you can ride around." "That's one big thing.

Menurut Ben Spies setup motor jauh lebih penting di motogp dibandingkan dengan Superbike. Saat setup motor meleset sedikit saja tak peduli bagaimanapun  kerasnya usaha anda, anda tidak akan bisa mencapai waktu lap yg bagus.

Begitu pula sebaliknya, kalau setup motor berjalan mulus, maka serasa tidak diperlukan "terlalu banyak" usaha utk mencapai lap time yg bagus. Motor Motogp (khususnya M1 yg dibicarakan disini) lebih ke mechanical dan setup geometri dibandingkan Yamaha R1.

Yamaha R1 (Superbike) meskipun setupnya meleset sedikit, maka itu masih bisa "diakali" saat berkendara dan pembalap masih bisa mencetak lap time yg bagus.
